Intraocular Lens in Edmonton, Alberta

If you have cataracts, you know how frustrating it can be to live with the increasingly cloudy vision caused by the eye disease. Thankfully, undergoing cataract surgery in Edmonton at Eye Q Premium Laser is an effective way to correct vision that has been impaired by cataracts.

Once you have decided to undergo cataract surgery, your surgeon will help you decide what type of IOL is best for restoring your eyesight.  At Eye Q Premium Laser, we offer options to fit the various lifestyle needs of our Edmonton cataract patients, including traditional and premium IOLs.

Traditional Intraocular Lens Implants

During cataract surgery, Dr. Leong-sit or Dr. Dean Mah removes the cataract-diseased lens from the eye. He then replaces it with an IOL to restore your vision after the procedure.

Many patients are satisfied with traditional IOLs, which allow them to see clearly after surgery. However, traditional IOLs are monofocal. That is, they only allow patients to see clearly at one distance, whether it is near, far or intermediate. Individuals with monofocal IOLs usually have to use prescription eyewear to see well at the other two distances.

Often, monofocal IOLs are still the best option for cataract surgery patients. Thanks to advancements in technology, however, you now have a wide range of IOL options. From traditional IOLs to toric IOLs designed to treat astigmatism, Eye Q Premium Laser offers an IOL option to a variety of optical and lifestyle needs.

Premium IOL Options

If you lead an active lifestyle that requires the ability to see clearly at several distances without the use of glasses or contact lenses, you might benefit from accommodating or multifocal premium IOLs. Multifocal and accommodating IOLs allow patients to see clearly at multiple distances without having to rely on contact lenses or glasses. Multifocal IOLs, however, are not always the best choice for your eyes or lifestyle. Your doctor will help you choose the IOL best suited for your needs.

Toric IOLs are often an appropriate treatment option for patients who suffer from lenticular astigmatism, a condition characterized by an abnormally shaped eye lens. Astigmatism-correcting toric IOLs are available in a variety of models, each offering its own added advantages. For example, aspheric toric IOLs provide high-definition vision. Other versions of toric IOLs filter blue or ultraviolet (UV) light.

At Eye Q Premium Laser, we also offer AcrySof single-piece IOLs. These IOLs are fabricated entirely from a soft, flexible acrylic material that is specifically designed for the eye.
